Lumio Smart TV Journey

Building Lumio: My Journey from Xiaomi to India's Next Smart TV Revolution

Posted 15 December 2024 by Mono

When I joined the smart TV industry, I never imagined I'd be part of building something from the ground up. After years at Xiaomi India, where we transformed how millions of Indians experience television, I found myself at the intersection of opportunity and ambition: Lumio.

"The Indian Smart TV market is valued at $5 billion and is set to expand at a steady 13% CAGR over the next three to four years. This growth is fueled by a shift toward premium features like larger screens, QLED, OLED, and MiniLED technologies."

The Genesis of Lumio

Lumio, under Circuit House Technologies, was founded in March 2024 by Raghu Reddy and Kailash Sankaranarayanan. Raghu brings nearly two decades of experience in consumer electronics, having led business functions at both Xiaomi and Snapdeal. As the former Chief Business Officer at Xiaomi India, he managed product verticals and ecommerce operations that touched millions of customers.

The vision was clear: create smart TVs that don't just match the competition but fundamentally outperform them. When we say Lumio TVs are 2x faster than Sony and other leading TVs while loading apps like Netflix or rebooting, we mean it. This isn't marketing speak - it's the result of obsessive engineering focus.

Why India? Why Now?

The timing couldn't be better. Consider these numbers:

  • The India Smart TV and OTT Market is estimated at $22.39 billion in 2025, expected to reach $51.65 billion by 2030
  • CTV households in India could reach 60 million by end of 2025 - a 4x increase from 2020
  • The market is growing at an 18.2% CAGR
  • Streaming now accounts for over 44% of total TV viewership

India is at an inflection point. The shift from traditional cable to streaming is accelerating, and consumers are demanding more - more features, more speed, more value. That's exactly what Lumio delivers.

The Product Philosophy

In April 2025, we launched our flagship lineup:

Lumio Vision 9 QD-Mini LED TV - Our premium 55-inch offering with 900 nits brightness, combining Quantum Dot technology with Mini LED precision for stunning HDR performance.

Lumio Vision 7 QLED Series - Available in 43, 50, and 55-inch sizes, these bring premium picture quality to a broader audience.

Both are powered by our in-house Flagship Boss Processor with 3GB RAM - the secret behind that 2x speed advantage. When you've spent years watching users wait for apps to load, you understand why every millisecond matters.

Early Traction

The market response validated our approach. Within just two months of launching our smart TV range, Lumio crossed $1 million in gross merchandise value. For a seed-stage company, this kind of traction speaks volumes about product-market fit.

Our $4.3M seed round, led by Stellaris Venture Partners and 3one4 Capital, gave us the runway to expand. We've since launched the Vision Arc 5 and Vision Arc 7 home projectors, extending the Lumio experience beyond traditional TVs.

What's Next for CTV in India

The connected TV revolution in India is just beginning. Here's what I'm watching:

  • FAST Channels - Free ad-supported streaming is growing 43% YoY. India's appetite for free content makes this a massive opportunity.
  • Regional Content - The demand for localized, vernacular programming is reshaping content strategies.
  • AI Integration - From content recommendations to voice control, AI is becoming table stakes.
  • Premium Display Tech - Mini LED and QLED are no longer luxury features; they're becoming mainstream expectations.

Lessons from the Journey

Building Lumio has reinforced several beliefs:

Speed is a feature. In a world where every streaming service, every app, every interaction demands attention, the TV that responds fastest wins.

Value isn't just about price. Indian consumers are sophisticated. They'll pay for genuine quality improvements, not badge engineering.

The ecosystem matters. A TV is no longer a standalone device. It's a hub for streaming, gaming, smart home control, and more. Building for this reality requires rethinking everything.

"The future of television isn't about watching - it's about experiencing. Lumio is building for that future."

As we continue to grow, I'm excited about what's ahead. The Indian CTV market is at an inflection point, and Lumio is positioned to lead the charge. Stay tuned.
